 Gran Torino. Overrated drama about a crusty, inflexible Korean War veteran who must confront his Hmong immigrant neighbors – and his own long-held prejudices – when the family's teen son tries to steal his beloved 1972 Gran Torino. (3 stars out of 5)
 Defiance. Average movie about one of four Jewish brothers who escape from Poland into the forests of Belarus during World War II to lead a band of resistance fighters and create a safe haven for Jewish refugees. (3 stars out of 5)

 Home. Decent documentary that is a breathtaking ode to planet Earth, an aerial voyage that captures the interdependence of the world's ecosystems -- and the bruises left behind by human indifference. (3 stars out of 5)
 Dreams with Sharp Teeth. Dull documentary about the life of sci-fi scribe Harlan Ellison, known as much for his contentious demeanor and abrasive personality as he is for his award-winning literature. (2 stars out of 5)
